Local Help in Challenging Benefits Decisions

Citizens Advice Bureau Westhill and District together with Kincardine and Mearns Citizens Advice Bureau are pleased to announce that, as a result of winning grant funding from the Fairer Scotland Fund, the work of their Welfare Benefits Officer (WBO) has been extended to a full time post for the next two years.

Sandra Bland, WBO, will cover Kincardine and Mearns, East Garioch, Westhill, Deeside and Upper Donside and will offer advice, information and assistance to take benefit decisions to appeal, as well as represent clients at Benefit Tribunals.  All types of Benefit are included. She will also provide support to generalist advisers in the Bureaux to ensure that best possible benefits advice is given to all clients in need.

“The post has been extended from 12 hours per week last year to full-time,” said Eveline Crossan, Manager of the Westhill CAB.  “Last year, the Bureaux gained £468,000 for our clients and the local economy, in much-needed reinstated benefits.  We look forward to continuing good results with the extended service we are now able to provide, especially to rural areas which traditionally have had limited access to such a service,” she added.

To contact the service call 01224 747714 for CAB Westhill and District or call 01569 766578 for the Kincardine and Mearns CAB

Both Bureaux offer an advice service provided by volunteer advisers.  If you are interested in volunteering with a CAB, please call the contact numbers for more information.   Training will be given and out-of-pocket expenses are paid.
